Which of these hits home for you?Â
You’re alone, lonely and miss having someone special in your life...
Life feels like it has no meaning or direction since you lost your spouse. Family and friends have mostly faded out of your life. You move from room to room, doing stuff, feeling like you’re in a foggy haze. You've got no zest for life, nothing exciting to get out of bed for in the morning. You barely even remember what it feels like to feel. You’d like to find happiness again, maybe even with someone new. But you just don't know, and you certainly don't feel anywhere close to ready to date again. You just want to take it slow and find yourself before jumping into anything. But where do you even start?
Why does it have to be this hard? You just want to fall in love again, but...
You basically have to relearn everything you thought you knew about dating. Every time you think you finally found a good one, they’re “not ready for a relationship” or “not sure they want to be a 3rd wheel to your late spouse.” It’s frustrating. Yet, in the back of your mind, you wonder if you’re the one who’s not quite ready for a relationship. There’s a nagging feeling of guilt in the background that makes it feel like you’re cheating on your late spouse whenever things start to get intimate. Dating has been an endless loop of promising matches that end in rejection and disappointment. Where do you go next?
You've fallen for someone new and are struggling with how to proceed...
You found someone wonderful, but are struggling to navigate this budding relationship. You want your family, friends and maybe even your kids to be happy for you. But how do you introduce your new love interest to them, and explain that you’re ready to move forward - into a life with someone new while being considerate of their feelings? And what about your late spouse's family? How do you even begin to navigate that? Maybe there's some lingering guilt or other difficult emotions bubbling up as your new relationship progresses that you need some advice on. Where do you even turn?
81,000 widowed people have found my words compelling enough to follow along for more.Â
I speak from the heart with vulnerability on TikTok, sharing the highs, lows, and insights I've had after losing my wife, Tamara, to cancer 7 years ago.Â

Here's what other people I've helped have to say.
Â
Losing a spouse changes you forever - and I believe that it's for the better.Â
There is nothing more painful than the loss of a spouse - research proves it. Devestation, heartbreak, anger, even physical pain are all documented impacts of becoming widowed.
When the pain begins to subside, renewal begins. Something in you shifts. You feel levels of empathy you had never felt before. You see the good in others that you were blind to before. You're more patient, more kind, and more understanding than you ever were before.
This isn't coincidental. This is your heart healing. This is you, rebuilding yourself in ways you never thought possible during those darkest days. This is you becoming the person that you (and your late spouse) would be proud of.Â
It can feel incredibly overwhelming during this time. Emotions swing from one extreme to another. Hope begins to creep in, only to be sideswiped by massive guilt. Visions of a brighter future are snuffed out by painful visions of your late spouse's final days. You experience judgement from others, judgement from yourself, and fear of judgement from your maker, all for daring to dream of moving forward into a new chapter of the only life you have to live.
You could try to do it alone. You could try to think your way into a new headspace and heartspace. You could try to muster up the willpower to overcome the pain and the loneliness and the guilt on your own, but the reality is that willpower just doesn't apply here.Â

Why me? Why this community?
After losing Tamara to cancer, I quit my job to be there for our kid, 11 years old at the time. Years of aniticipatory grief had me pretty messed up. On one hand, I felt like I was over the worst of it. After all, what can be worse than watching the one you love slowly succumb to a horrible illness? On the other hand, my mind was racing with a million and one thoughts about what I should do next.Â
Well, the grief decided what came next. I spent weeks upon weeks curled up in the fetal position on the sofa, bawling my eyes out. Crushing feelings of hopelessness, debilitating feelings of regret and blood-boiling anger were daily occurrences during this time.
Eventually, the worst of the worst began to lift. The spells on the sofa began to get shorter and less frequent. I began to feel a sense of needing to make some kind of forward progress, even if it was just to get out of the house for a while.Â
As the acute grief began to subside, I began to think about my future. What did my next 40 years look like? Would I spend it alone? Would anyone even want to date a middle-aged widowed guy with full-time childcare responsibilities?Â
I began to distill these thoughts down to what I called my Absolute Truths. Ideas that were irrefutable, such as 'I loved Tamara with all my heart' and 'I did the best I knew how to at the time.'Â These truths allowed me to look within and find something solid amid a sea of uncertainty. They allowed me to begin taking those small steps forward, towards the life I knew I wanted for myself as I rebuilt from scratch.
As I type this, I know I've still got a ways to go. The grief didn't go away - it will be with me always. As will my love for Tamara. But I'm in a very good place. That 11-year-old child is now an 18-year-old adult with a kind heart and a bright future. I'm back to doing meaningful work at a job I enjoy. And I've met someone new and wonderful that I'm madly in love with. Sara and I have plans to buy a house together soon where we'll raise chickens, grow our own veggies and watch the sun set from a swing on the porch.Â
To be clear, it hasn't been easy - my kid has been in therapy for years, and still struggles with having lost his mom way too soon. My grief still blindsides me from time to time, impacting my relationships with others in ways I'm still trying to understand. And my foray into dating wasn't exactly smooth sailing. I encountered tremendous internal challenges as I navigated those early days of dating and new relationships, many of which went sideways when my grief reared its head.
I created this community so that I can share what helped me along the way. I know how hard it is trying to muscle through it alone. I don't want you to have to go through that. Join me inside the community and tell me what you're struggling with so I can help you find the path that leads to lasting happiness.
